Like every other event in our community, this march has brought up reactions from all sides. No, I don't mean left-vs-right, I'm talking about the internal spats.
What's a girl to do? You can't so much as say what you're FOR without sparking a fierce debate.
If you're pro marriage, that means you don't care about non-monogamists
If you're against DADT you're not thinking about the Trans-community
And heaven forbid you fight for plain, simple equality; We're not prepared enough, we're too prepared, we've haven't got enough support, we CAN'T get enough support, we shouldn't worry about support. Sometimes it's amazing we've gotten anywhere at all.
I think the only thing I have yet to hear is what they would rather we do instead. There's so much hostility in our community towards any kind of action. We've had so many years in the closet and so much time spent moving by inches; a hate-crimes law here, an adoption case there, and always the question of which rights are important.
Which rights would you give up? Clearly you'd rather not be beaten to death in the street than be able to marry, so lets work for that. Would you rather be able to adopt your partner's child or visit hir in the hospital? Immigration or employment? We're so used to these discussions we've forgotten that this is not how it should be. NO one should be asked to make these choices, no one should be asked to accept their civil rights in baby-steps
Lately, the president and the media have told us we need to wait, to be patient. We're told that now just isn't the right time. I'm hard pressed to think when this "right time" will be. When, in history, has a change like this happened at the "right time". When does congress have an empty plate, look up and say "Right then, on to equality."
If we keep waiting for the "right time," if we let them push our rights to the back seat, who can say how many more years we will be waiting. As well meaning as the people who perpetuate this theory may be, we cannot afford to keep quiet, to sit back and play Mr. Nice gay. We are human beings, we are citizens and we deserve the basic right to live without fear of discrimination.
This isn't about "winning." This fight won't be won with a march. This march is a statement. Not just to congress, not just to the president, but to anyone who opens a paper or turns on their news (Fox or otherwise)
We are here, we are equal and we are TIRED of waiting.

Random facts of life that piss me off #506: I have to wade through people's birth vids (I get that you want to keep your hubby occupied, but why not hand him a sucker or some M&Ms instead of the camera? OR AT LEAST DON'T POST IT EWEWEWEW*) and gory, factually deficient anti-choice vids (SRSLY! WHY ARE THERE NO GOOD VIDEOS FOR THE DIXIECHICKS!!CAPSLOCKRAGE!!!**) and yet Youtube regularly deletes the explicite lesbian scenes from Better than Chocolate, Fingersmith and But I'm a Cheerleader.
WTF, youtube? They don't even get NAKKIDS in Fingersmith. Frankly, I'd rather watch two adults in a artsy blink and you'll miss it sex scene than any of that crap. (The scene in question starts at about 4:40, enjoy it while it's still up. There's an Italian subbed version that hasn't been reported yet either)
